Quotes.fm is designed for public discovery with limited personal data. This policy explains what we process, why we process it, and the choices available to you.

1. Scope and who we are

This Privacy Policy applies to quotes.fm and its public features (collectively, the “Service”). For purposes of this policy, “Quotes.fm,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the operator of the Service. Quotes.fm is responsible for the processing described here. You can contact us at support@quotes.fm.

2. Information we process

Information generated when you use the Service

When you use the Service, we and our service providers may process limited usage and device information such as your IP address, request date and time, pages visited, referring page, browser and device type, approximate location, and security or error events. Search terms are transmitted when you submit a search and may be retained in ordinary service logs.

We use Google Analytics to understand aggregate page usage and improve the Service. Its storage consent is denied by default, so the integration does not read or write Analytics or advertising cookies. It may receive cookieless measurement signals such as the page path, referrer, device or browser information, approximate location, and interaction data. Quotes.fm removes URL query parameters from the page location sent through this integration and disables Google Signals and advertising-personalization signals.

Anonymous Likes

When you Like a quote, your browser stores a random identifier and a list of quotes you have Liked. Quotes.fm uses that identifier to recognize the action, save or remove the Like, and prevent duplicate Likes. It is not linked to an account, name, or email address. Public Like counts are aggregate counts and do not identify a visitor.

Quote creation and sharing

Quote cards are rendered in your browser. Creating or downloading a card does not, by itself, upload the generated image to Quotes.fm. If you choose a device share sheet or an external sharing link, the selected operating-system service or third-party platform will process the information you choose to share under its own privacy terms.

Information you send us

If you email us or send a correction, source reference, rights request, or other feedback, we process your email address, message, attachments, and any other information you choose to provide so that we can review and respond to it.

Information we do not currently request

The current public Service does not offer user registration and does not ask visitors for account passwords, payment details, or public profile information. Please do not send sensitive personal information unless it is necessary for a specific request.

3. How we use information

We use information as reasonably necessary to:

  • deliver pages, search results, recommendations, and media;
  • save or remove anonymous Likes and calculate aggregate counts;
  • maintain reliability, diagnose errors, and measure performance;
  • detect, investigate, and prevent abuse or security incidents;
  • respond to support, correction, privacy, and rights requests;
  • protect our users, the Service, and the rights of others; and
  • comply with applicable law and enforce our terms.

Where data-protection law requires a legal basis, we rely as applicable on providing the Service you request, our legitimate interests in operating and securing a trustworthy quote-discovery service, your consent where specifically requested, and compliance with legal obligations. We consider the nature and limited scope of the data when relying on legitimate interests.

4. Local storage and cookies

Quotes.fm currently uses browser local storage for two Like-related values: a random anonymous visitor identifier and the quote slugs Liked in that browser. The Like list is updated when you Like or Unlike a quote. The visitor identifier remains on your device until you clear the site’s stored data through your browser settings. Clearing site data removes the local state and causes a new visitor identifier to be created the next time it is needed.

Quotes.fm does not use advertising or Analytics cookies for public browsing. Google Analytics operates with Analytics and advertising storage denied and may send cookieless measurement signals. Cookies or similar technologies that are strictly necessary to deliver, maintain, or protect the Service may be used. You can control local storage and cookies through your browser, although blocking necessary storage may prevent some features from working as expected.

5. How information is shared

We disclose information only as described below:

  • Service providers. Vendors may process information on our behalf to host, secure, maintain, store, deliver, and support the Service. This includes Google Analytics for limited, cookieless aggregate measurement.
  • Communications providers. If you email us, email and related service providers process the message to deliver and store it.
  • Services you choose. A third-party social network, device sharing service, or other destination receives information only when you choose to use that sharing option.
  • Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights or safety, investigate abuse, or establish or defend legal claims.
  • Business changes. Information may be transferred as part of a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality and legal safeguards.

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about visitors.

6. Retention

We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including service operation, security, dispute resolution, and legal compliance. Retention depends on the type of information:

  • a stored Like is removed from the active reaction table when you Unlike it using the same browser state;
  • local visitor and Like state remains on your device until you clear it or the feature removes it;
  • service logs are retained according to operational, security, and legal requirements; and
  • support messages and source or rights records are retained as needed to resolve the request, maintain an audit trail, or meet legal duties.

If you clear local browser data before removing a Like, Quotes.fm may no longer be able to recognize the earlier Like or associate it with your new browser state.

7. Security

We use reasonable administrative, organizational, and technical safeguards designed for the nature of the information we process. No service can guarantee absolute security. Please contact us promptly if you believe the Service or information associated with it has been compromised.

8. International processing

Quotes.fm and its service providers may process information in countries other than the one where you live. Those countries may have different data-protection laws. Where applicable law requires it, we use recognized transfer mechanisms or other appropriate safeguards for international processing.

9. Children’s privacy

The Service is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us so that we can investigate and take appropriate action.

10. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a portable copy of personal information; to object to or restrict certain processing; or to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. California residents may also have rights to know, correct, or delete covered personal information and to receive equal service when exercising applicable privacy rights.

To make a request, email support@quotes.fm and describe the right you wish to exercise. We may need information sufficient to verify the request and protect against unauthorized disclosure. Some rights are subject to legal limitations, and we may be unable to locate information that is not linked to an account or direct identifier. You may also complain to your local data-protection or supervisory authority.

Because we do not sell personal information or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising, browser “Do Not Track” or Global Privacy Control signals do not change those practices.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Service, our providers, or applicable requirements change. We will post the revised policy here and update the date above. If a change materially affects how we handle personal information, we will provide additional notice when reasonably appropriate before the change takes effect.
